We hope you are keeping well. Below is our monthly Newsletter for February and a quick update on a couple of incidents to make you aware of from the last few days. Our crime reduction catalogue is also attached to this email. 

Vehicle seized by officers who were out on patrol in the area at 02:00 on the 30/01/2026. Vehicle seized on London Road due to disqualified driver. 

Report from St Catherine's Church of a burglary sometime between 12:00 on the 29th and 11:40 on the 30th of January. Suspect has forced entry to a back window frame and a quantity of cash has been taken. We have visited the area to complete CCTV and door knocks, but if you live near the Church, (Hinckley Road, School Close, Crossland Row, Church Street or Cambourne Road), please take a look at your CCTV. Due to the large timeframe, please specifically look between 23:30 on the 29th to 00:30 on the 30th. If you find anything of interest, please get in touch. We would remind local business owners to not leave cash in business properties overnight or when closed. Small businesses such as hairdressers were targeted several years ago as they are generally easy targets for this type of crime. Please consider PIR alarms and window alarms to deter opportunistic criminals.

Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you

We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months. 

Priority 1: Burglary 

You Said – Burglaries of homes, continue to be a concern in the area particularly where offenders seek to break into houses to steak car keys. As the darker nights continue house break ins have notoriously increased throughout January and February due to the signs that people are not home and the opportunities for offenders to be less disturbed with the cover of darkness. 

Priority 2: Vehicle Crime 

You Said – Data shows that During the first few months of the year vehicle crime particularly relating to theft of tools from vans parked at hotels increases. Naturally the community and local business are concerned about these seasonal increases and expect the police to take action to reduce this type of crime 

Priority 3: Road Safety

You Said – Road safety is consistently raised as a concern around the village particularly around our local schools where parking and a general disregard for pedestrians' safety is regularly being seen. Additionally with the Icy weather during the colder months of January and February the risk of collisions increases.

#WeDid - What we are doing

• Burglary - We will be making this type of crime a priority over the next 3 months looking to raise awareness within the community about the steps to take to prevent being the victim of crime. The use of light timers and other crime prevention goods will be highlighted as a deterrent and increased patrols in hotspots will be taking place. 

  Where offences are reported local officers will work closely with the detectives to ensure that community intelligence and CCTV opportunities are maximised to provide the greatest opportunities of identifying the offenders.

  During January, we suffered multiple residential burglaries at the start of the month. These were mainly jewellery related where suspects would brake into homes via patio doors or windows (smash glass), whilst residents were out. Towards the end of January, we have had several reports of shed breaks where it appears bicycles were being targeted. We have been completing targeted patrols, working with victims of crime to offer support and supporting residents with crime reduction items and raising awareness. • Road Safety – We acknowledge the concerns raised and have raised road safety as a priority your local neighbourhood team will be working closely with schools to ensure strong messages are sent out to parents and regular school patrols take place an enforcement action is taken where possible. We will be working in partnership with other agencies to look at road safety improvement opportunities were possible and ensuring we are in the right place at the right time to challenge and raise awareness with motorists. Where repeat offenders are identified, the police will look to take enforcement action on the drivers to ensure that such situations do not continue to endanger young people attending out local schools. 

  During January, several vehicles have been seized and arrests made whilst officers have been out on patrols, these relate to disqualified drivers and other offences. We have also been completing work with local schools where we have been issuing fixed penalty notices around school areas due to dangerous parking. This work will continue until hopefully the situation improves. During the bad weather in early January, we had multiple reports of road traffic incidents, mainly on the perimeter roads. Other reports include issues such as fallen trees and road works causing problems. 

• Vehicle Crime -  Over the coming months we seek to increase awareness across the community of things they can do or consider to prevent them becoming a victim of this type of crime, this will include several social media messages and crime safety events being held across the beat. Our patrols targeting this type of offending will continue and where offences occur, local officers will seek to support the investigators by visiting the areas and looking at CCTV and other evidential opportunities to maximise the likelihood of identifying an offender. 

  January - Reports of a motorbike theft from Forryan Road, bike recovered shortly after. Several shed breaks at locations such as Duport Road which we believe is bicycle related. We have also seen several reports from around Burbage of damage to vehicles such as slashed tyres and scratched vehicles. This is likely to be due to parking disputes and we are doing work to identify those involved. We are completing ongoing targeted work around areas that have suffered with damage to vehicles and shed breaks. If you have any information or CCTV, please get in touch.
